Secret Things

Have you ever asked God, Why? Have you ever asked Him for understanding of what’s going on but felt as if the heavens were sealed up? Have you ever wanted answers or explanations, but God did not give them to you?

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law (Deuteronomy 29:29, NKJV).

There are secret things that belong to the Lord, but there are also things that are revealed to us. When it comes to understanding things, we have some territory, but God has much more; and there are some things we are just not going to know on this side of heaven.

But God has revealed some principles that will help you, especially when you cannot figure out and understand everything. Don’t depend on your own understanding, but trust in the Lord with all your heart and He’ll direct your path. We know that all things—not some things, all things—work together for the good of those who love God (see Romans 8:28).

Those are powerful promises and you can hold on to them, especially when God does not give you an understanding of everything. God may explain some things, or He may not. But He has a plan, and He’s working it out for your good and His glory. And He’ll guide your steps along the right way, if you trust Him.

He wants us to trust Him, even though we don’t understand everything. That’s a tough place to be at times, but we can cling to His promises and know He’ll take care of us.

Pit Stop Prayer

Oh, Lord, expand my faith! When things are going well, it’s easy to say that I trust You and believe in Your love and care. But when circumstances are difficult, when I can’t understand or see or feel Your hand, even then I want to trust You. By the power of Your Spirit, increase my trust, Lord.
