Placing Our Hope in Jesus

When I was growing up, a disc jockey on the radio who went by the nickname Little Jody Rainwater would sign off in the morning by saying, “Don’t worry about nothin’, ‘cause ain’t nothin’ gonna come out right noway.”

Rainwater’s theology might not have been good, but I think it is true that it’s useless to worry, because most things don’t turn out the way you thought they would anyway. Listen to what Jesus had to say about worry:

For the pagans run after all these things [food and clothes], and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:32-34).

Can I hear an amen to that? Each day has enough trouble of it’s own; that’s just life. But Jesus said we are to put our hope and trust in Him. The Lord knows what we need, and He’s promised to provide for us. If you’ll seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, He will provide all that you need.

I don’t know what things you need today, but here’s the key: Focus on His kingdom, His righteousness, and being in right relationship with Him. Seek those things first. If you do, He will provide for you. That’s a great promise to hold on to.

When you feel worry creeping up on you today, tell God about your needs, and ask Him take care of those worries.

Pit Stop Point to Ponder

Studying nature will open your eyes to the amazing things God created and the fascinating ways He makes provision for every living thing. But Jesus said you are far more important to Him than birds or wildflowers, and He will certainly provide for you. Ask the Spirit to help you believe and live out that promise.
