Buried with Christ

You were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.

Colossians 2:12-13, NLT

What a story you have to tell! You were dead and buried, and now you have a new life!

I attended a baptismal service at a river, and it was such a precious time. Three people had just given their lives to Christ and wanted to be immersed. They went down in that water, were “buried” and then raised up out of the water to their new lives.

Without having a debate about the “right” way to baptize, I just want to say how powerfully the symbolism of that baptism spoke to me. We were dead because of our sins. But just as Christ was raised from the dead, so we are raised to new life—a life bestowed by God in Christ.

You were dead, and Christ has made you alive! You were raised to new life by trusting the mighty power of God—the same power that raised Christ from the dead. That power now works in you.

So ask yourself these questions: You trusted God’s power to save you, but do you trust it to work in your life now? Are you expecting God’s powerful works as you walk with Him? God has a power that can create universes and raise people from the dead!

Thank God today for your new life. Watch for His mighty power at work in you, and give Him the glory as you tell the story of your new life.

But wait . . . there’s even more to the story . . . come back tomorrow!

Pit Stop Point to Ponder

Here’s another powerful image: “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there” (Galatians 5:24, NLT). The old has been nailed to the cross. Dead. And now you live a new life by His Spirit!
