Bristol 2013 – How Desperate Are You?

Those were the words that Leo Johnston, lead singer of CrossCountry the Band, used to “throw the net” at the Bristol Victory Weekend in March. After singing the Eagles’ song “Desperado”, Leo asked, “How desperate are you? Are you as desperate as God was when He sent His only Son to die on the cross for you? Are you desperate enough to give your life to Jesus like He gave His life for you?”

Although still recovering from throat surgery last fall, Leo and his band headlined this year’s first full-scale Victory Weekend at the much anticipated Bristol Spring race. They were joined by John Schmid, local favorites Slim Pickings, the Xtreme Team, Nationwide driver Blake Koch and others. We also partnered with other race-related ministries and a few local churches to make the Bristol event a reality.

Leo reported that at least ten decisions were made during Saturday night’s main program despite a crowd diminished by a long rain delay. And, the Saturday morning “bring-a-kid” outreach also saw about ten people profess a new faith in Christ.

CrossCountry the Band entertained with their special brand of music, blessed the crowd with tee shirts, and made one young man extremely happy as he won a very nice acoustic electric guitar donated by the band.

Finally, we heard a great story from one of our stellar volunteers about a young race fan who was wearing an offensive tee shirt until he responded to the invitation to accept the Lord. Once he committed his life to Christ, he ripped off his old shirt and donned a new shirt given to him by a member of the Xtreme Team. That is what a Victory weekend is all about – seeing lives changed in visible and dramatic ways! Ask us how you can become more involved in this year’s upcoming events.
