Lodestar Mountain Inn

At the end of 2015, a sequence of events led Paul and Gladys Weaver, good friends of Steve, to purchase 524 acres of land in Upper Tract, WV and donate it to be the future site of the Lodestar Mountain Inn at Smoke Hole.  Plans were made for the inn to be a retreat center for veterans, business leaders, pastors, and all those who have grown weary through life’s battles and stressors – a place of solace and peace surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation.

The property is completely debt free, and the location is not only perfect for hiking, fishing, and mountain biking, but it’s also coveted by astronomers for its freedom from light pollution.  It is absolutely beautiful!  Steve says, “I want everyone to be a part of it.”

Through the wonderful support of many who gave of their resources and finances, we have completed construction of a gorgeous new house with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths and have been able to add several ponds to the property.  We also turned a truly unique log cabin that we acquired into the beautiful Wesley Memorial Chapel.

Future plans include 4 individual cottages that we are currently raising funds for, as well as plans to remodel the existing farmhouse to include an additional 5-6 bedrooms.  There will be a horse barn coming to the property that will serve as an events center and will house 6 stables, as well as 2 bunk houses and 2 baths where a youth group could stay.

This early 19th-century horse barn given to us by a gentleman in Pennsylvania was part of a divine plan for the inn.  Through Steve’s connections in relation to the log cabin chapel, he mentioned looking for a horse barn, and the man he was talking to said that he had been asked to take down just such a barn off a property in PA close to where Steve had done encounters and festivals in the past.  When the man called up his friend to ask if he had ever heard of Steve Wingfield, the friend said, “You’re not going to believe this, but I’m wearing a Steve Wingfield t-shirt right now!”  This gentleman had pulled the t-shirt out of his drawer the night before, and something told him to wear it to bed that night even though he had not worn it in ages.  He was still wearing it at the moment that call came through the next morning.  Amazing things are happening with the Lodestar Mountain Inn!

Your financial help is critical to the completion of the inn and its planned dedication in the fall of 2018.  We have been given most of the materials needed for the different phases of construction, and we now need the finances to put it all together.

“We want everyone to be able to enjoy this place,” Steve says.
